Renovation of Mont-Royal bus garage

Renovation of Mont-Royal bus garage

Project summary

Starting in May, the Mont-Royal bus garage (located at 2321 Mont-Royal Avenue East) will undergo major renovations. This will serve to keep the infrastructure in good condition and ensure the safety of employees and nearby residents. The work will involve the partial renovation of the building’s envelope and structure, as well as upgrades to certain interior systems and mechanisms.

Maintaining these infrastructures will allow the bus garage to continue its operations, so that we can keep providing bus service to all area residents and ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees and those living near our facilities. The bus garage will remain in operation throughout the project.

Priority has been given to masonry work, as this is the most urgent and necessary. The work will be done over the next two years.

Mansonry work

Duration of the work: summer/fall 2023 and 2024.

Description of the work: the masonry work will involve renovating the brickwork of the building’s outer envelope. In summer 2023, masonry teams will focus on the main administrative building.

The work will begin over the course of May 2023.

Street ciosures

If any street closures are necessary, notice will be given in advance to allow residents living near the bus garage to plan their trips accordingly.

Frequently asked questions

Over the years, neighbourhood residents have planted climbing vines at the base of some of the bus garage’s walls. During the masonry work, the vines may need to be removed.

Yes, the bus garage will continue normal operations for the full duration of the work.

The heating systems at the Mont-Royal bus garage are obsolete and need to be replaced. After a breakdown in winter 2023, the STM had to install temporary equipment at the corner of Gilford and Fullum to keep the bus garage in operation.

The STM is working with the borough to find a permanent solution and replace the heating system for winter 2025. We are also weighing our options for another temporary solution in case of another breakdown during winter 2024.
