Current situation
Today, the service is running as usual.
A maintenance workers’ strike is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 9, at 00:00 a.m. and will end on Tuesday, June 17, at 11:59 p.m. It will run nine days total.
We recommend planning ahead and allowing extra time for your travel during this period.
Impact on bus and métro services
Buses will run until 1.15am on the night of Sunday to Monday 9 June and resume service at 6.15am on the morning of 9 June, while the metro will run until 1am and resume service at 6.30am.
No night buses will run during this period. The night bus service will resume in full on the night of 11 to 12 June.
We make every effort to minimise the impact of pressure tactics on your movements in order to ensure a certain level of essential services.
During the strike, from June 9 to June 17, bus and métro services will continue, but only during peak hours and evenings. Please refer to the table below to better understand how this may affect your public transit use.
Paratransit service will be maintained at all times.
The planned school bus routes will continue, but there will be no off-peak service on June 9, 10 and 11.
For the Canadian Grand Prix weekend (June 13, 14 and 15), the regular weekend schedule will be in effect.
If possible, we encourage you to consider active transportation options such as walking or biking, or to work from home during the strike period.
Paratransit service will be maintained at all times.

Status of negotiations
The STM is currently in the process of renewing collective agreements with four of its six unions. Active negotiations are ongoing.
A strike notice must be filed with the Tribunal administratif du travail (TAT) seven days in advance. The TAT then assesses whether essential service levels are adequate to ensure public health and safety. Once this is confirmed, the union may legally proceed with the strike.
Frequently Asked Question
It starts at 00:00 on 9 June. Buses will run until 1.15 a.m. on the night of 8 to 9 June and resume service at 6.15 a.m. on the morning of 9 June, while the metro will run until 1 a.m. and resume service at 6.30 a.m., in line with established essential services. This means that no night buses will be running during this period.
Essential services are those deemed necessary to protect public health and safety and must be maintained during a labour dispute (strike). The STM and the union held several discussions to agree on which services would continue. This agreement was reviewed by the Administrative Labour Tribunal (TAT), which confirmed on June 2 that the plan was sufficient to ensure public health and safety during the June 9–17 strike.
Bus service
Yes, after a lot of hard work by the customer information team, most of the timetables adjusted for the strike period will be available in the STM's tools (website, text alerts and automated timetables by telephone) as well as in the apps.
As these timetable changes require manual entries of more than 3,000 trips per day, the STM wishes to warn that errors may still occur (e.g. off-peak bus timetables for 9, 10 and 11 June).
No. These services will continue to operate at 100%.
The planned school bus service will continue, but there will be no off-peak service on June 9, 10 and 11.
The trip will continue to the scheduled terminus. The schedule accounts for the strike, and passengers already on board will be brought to their destination.
Yes, there will be no service outside essential services, i.e. after 1.15 am, on 8, 9, 10 and 11 June. On 13, 14 and 15 June, service will be back to 100%, and 50% on 16 and 17 June.
We are continuing to train future drivers with our training officers. The wind vanes on these buses will indicate ‘training’.
We position the buses on the Montréal Island-wide network before the start of essential services and return them to the transport centres at the end of these intervals. The wind vanes on the buses will indicate ‘in transit’.
Currently, only shuttle 568 is operated by the STM. Its schedule will follow the same planning approach as the rest of the STM network and respect essential service hours.
Yes, there will be no service outside essential services, i.e. after 1.15 am, on 9, 10 and 11 June. On 13, 14 and 15 June, service will return to 100%. On 12, 16 and 17 June, service will be reduced to 50%.
Metro service
Not necessarily. It’s important to plan ahead, leave early and, if possible, consider walking, biking or working from home.
A bus can only depart if it can complete its full route before the service ends.
Metro trains follow the same rule: the last train leaves the terminus only if it can complete its full trip before the cutoff. This means the last train may have already passed your station. Here are the metro departure times during the strike on June 9, 10 and 11:

No. For safety reasons, stations will be closed when service is not running, as striking maintenance workers are responsible for essential equipment like elevators and escalators.
Yes, the STM must provide service during essential service hours.
SPS are triggered in public safety contexts, and we will be there to support customers in these needs.
Trains will be deployed on the network before the start of passenger service
Objective: to distribute trains across the network to ensure rapid coverage from the start of service
This positioning is based on the picture of the network in normal periods at the same time excluding strikes
Trains must be moved into position across the network to be ready at the start of each authorized service window. These out-of-service movements ensure service can start on time while staying within approved hours.
Grand Prix du Canada Weekend, June 13, 14 and 15
Yes. Métro service will be increased for this major event. Additional staff will also be on site to assist transit users, provide support with fare purchases and facilitate travel.
We encourage people to plan their trips differently (by bike, Bixi, etc.).
