The STM allows various events to take place in its installations, subject to certain conditions. To obtain complete information about specific requests and permits if needed, please select a category below and follow directions.
Requests and conditions involving the métro
Important :
All request applications involving the use of a métro train must be sent in at least 21 days in advance, as they are reviewed by a committee. Please note that fees could apply.
For photo and film shoots by a company or an agency for commercial purposes, whether a movie, advertisement or television show is being filmed, you must submit your application in advance by filling out the Commercial film and photo shoots form
Film and photo shoots by students or amateurs involving small teams and light material (smart phones and basic camera equipment) do not require special permission, as long as the activity complies with these conditions:
- Film or photo shoots are done with a smart phone or small-size camera
- Tripods and camera flashes are forbidden inside métro system installations
- Activity must not get in the way of people circulating
- Images of STM employees are forbidden
In addition to the above, you must observe basic safety rules inside the métro system under all circumstances. For an overview of these rules (French only), click here: Règlement R-036.
Any student film and/or photo shoots that must exceed these restrictions will require authorization and someone to accompany photo/film crew during activity, all of which is subject to fees. In that event, please fill out the Film and photo shoots by students or amateurs form to submit application and follow procedure on form.
If your request involves film or photo shoots by a company or an agency for commercial purposes, and this activity requires that métro property or equipment be leased in whole or in part, you must submit your application ahead of time by filling out theLeasing property or equipment for film ou photo shoot form.
Any group wishing to set up a display stand inside a métro station must first submit an application by contacting Métrocom, a Transgesco’s partner (Trangesco is the STM’s commercial subsidiary)

Musical or lyrical performances or giving any other type of show is forbidden inside a métro station. In some cases, holding such an activity can be authorized once an application is submitted, as long as noise levels do not exceed 80 decibels and activity takes place in a designated area during periods allowed by STM.

To apply for authorization to hold an artistic activity in the métro, please fill out the Artistic activites in the metro form and follow the procedure outlined on form.
If your purpose is the distribution of fliers of a commercial nature or product samples in the metro, you must first contact Transgesco s.e.c., commercial subsidiary of Société de transport de Montréal, at 514 280-9636.
After reviewing your application, Transgesco s.e.c. will direct you to an appropriate commercial partner who will guide you through this process. You can also learn more at www.transgesco.ca.

A person could offer and distribute fliers of a non-commercial nature inside a métro station, fliers in which political, social or religious ideological views are expressed using a leaflet, pamphlet, brochure, newspaper, booklet or foldout page. Although this approach may appeal to many organizations wishing to promote their cause among our transit customers, the STM does not encourage this type of activity inside its property.
Any such exhibit, offer and distribution inside a métro station is only allowed if held in areas and corridors located between station entrance and where transit users pay their fare, but only to the extent that said activity complies with these conditions:
- It must not impact on station cleanliness
- It must not get in the way of working STM employees
- It must not hinder or hold up circulation
- It must not compromise the safety of people
- It must not be a commercial activity

Organizations involved in helping disabled persons deal with accessibility issues, like RAAMM and RUTA, and wishing to hold a training session in the transit system can submit an application with all relevant details by sending it to this email address:
For all requests from any media organization, please contact the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) public affairs department by filling out the Media requests form and sending it to the address shown.
Requests and conditions involving the bus system and/or a bus terminus
Filming or taking pictures aboard an STM bus providing passenger service is forbidden. However, you can leas a bus for a film or photo shoot. Leasing is subject to certain conditions and a request must be submitted in advance by filling out the Film and photo shoots form and sending it to the shown address.
Holding any type of specific activity aboard an STM bus is forbidden.
If holding a particular activity or event requires that a bus stop or bus shelter be moved, please contact the city of Montréal’s film and television bureau at the number below to obtain prior authorization.
