Montréal, February 14, 2017 – The Association des libraires du Québec (ALQ), the city’s Bibliothèques de Montréal and the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) are pleased to join forces for the fifth edition of Lire vous transporte. This year, readers are invited to climb aboard the « literary bus », giving them a unique opportunity to delve into the world of well-known literary characters. An original concept that blends reading and public transit!

Ride the bus on a themed tour and rediscover Montréal

One Sunday each month, avid readers will have the opportunity of plunging into the imaginary world of their favourite author. Indeed, the contest will give 30 lucky winners a chance for a seat aboard the literary bus on one of four 90-minute themed tours hosted by an author and a well-known personality from the cultural community. The chosen themes will determine the route taken by the bus and provide a backdrop for talks. Each tour will serve to discover Montréal from a different angle, while providing passengers with an intimate setting for an exclusive encounter with the authors.

  • February 26: « For Lovers » tour
    • Claudia Larochelle with Benoit Roberge
  • March 26: « Crime Scene » tour
    • Chrystine Brouillet with François Julien (forensic biologist)
  • April 23 (World Book Day): « Literary Montréal » tour
    • Tristan Malavoy with Émilie Bibeau
  • May 21: « Beauty and Architecture » tour
    • Pierre Thibault with Fanny Mallette

To enter contest, go to the Association des libraires du Québec website at www.alq.qc.ca

The « literary bus » will be easily identified by its interior and exterior look sporting the colours of the Lire vous transporte campaign. Besides the special tour dates, the bus will be travelling the streets of Montréal starting February 14. STM customers can ride aboard that bus on these lines:

  • 15 Sainte-Catherine (February)
  • 24 Sherbrooke (March)
  • 150 René-Levesque (April)
  • 715 Vieux-Montréal / Vieux-Port (May)

Reading on the bus and in the métro is heaven on wheels!
With public transit, you let yourself be driven to your destination, while giving yourself the freedom to fill your travel time with something you enjoy. And to that end, nothing beats reading a good book, paper or digital, to brighten up a bus or métro ride. The product of an organic partnership between the Association des libraires du Québec, the city’s Bibliothèques de Montréal and Société de transport de Montréal, Lire vous transporte contributes to improving the experience for Montréal’s public transit customers in a fun, innovative way, and to encouraging people to read, while promoting Québec literature.

At any time on the bus, customers using their mobile device can download the first chapter of any of several dozen works by Québec authors. This free digital library is also available at www.lirevoustransporte.com. Transit users can access it from any one of 30 métro stations featuring the wireless network. They can read the rest of the story by borrowing the book, in either paper or digital format, from one of Montréal’s 45 public libraries. One must simply be registered with any Bibliothèque de Montréal and then activate the borrow option (« Emprunter ») on the lirevoustransporte.com site. Readers can also purchase the book in either format from the leslibraires.ca website, one that brings together over 100 independent librairies and makes buying locally possible.

It should be noted that Lire vous transporte receives financial support from the Government of Canada, through its Canadian Heritage department, thanks to the Canada Book Fund, as well as financial assistance from the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC).
