The Société de transport de Montréal (STM)
joins the mobilization and commitment campaign by
Dfi-Climat
Montreal, April 8, 2008 - As an active partner and financial supporter, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is proud to team up with some sixty local businesses that have already joined the vast campaign by Dfi-Climat, aimed at mobilizing Montréal citizens into taking action for the environment.
Dfi-Climat challenges Montrealers to make a commitment, take action and choose responsibly from among 23 daily habits that can help combat climate change. Each of these choices is quantified in terms of lowered GHG emissions and results will be compiled throughout the campaign, which runs from April 8 to May 20.
“Almost half of the daily habit changes suggested by Dfi-Climat are related to transportation. One of them even challenges people into taking public transit once a week. If 100 000 people do so, that one small action will help reduce GHG emissions by 13 500 tonnes, which in itself is an excellent result. This only goes to show how small, personal actions can have a major impact when carried out by many individuals. We can only hope that Montrealers take up the climate challenge in large numbers,” declared the chairman of the STM Board of directors, Claude Trudel.
