Following this decision to obtain the designation of special constable for STM inspectors, the STM will implement a permanent monitoring committee and will hire an independent exper to advise and guide it through the change in status.

The STM Board of Directors adopted a resolution on April 3, 2019, whereby the Chief Executive Officer was to speed up the necessary steps to obtain the designation of special constable for STM inspectors. These steps are already well underway.

Following this decision, the STM is announcing two new measures to improve and deepen discussions around the status change.

Together with the City of Montréal, the STM will implement a permanent monitoring committee to observe the relationships between the inspectors and civil society. The interested parties should be approached in the coming weeks. In addition, the STM will hire an independent expert in the field of criminology and ethics who has experience in community relations. This person will advise the STM on the current process and guide it through the change in status, ensuring the use of best practices.

The change in inspector status and the additional measures announced this morning are being carried out with the support of the municipal administration.
