Montréal, July 2, 2015 – The Board of Directors of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Luc Tremblay as Director General of the public enterprise. Mr. Tremblay was chosen following a selection process that attracted many quality candidates.

On the strength of 21 years’ experience with the STM, he is very familiar with the organization’s many challenges, both in management and in its service offering. He held the position of Treasurer, Executive Director, Finance and Control before accepting to serve as Interim Director General last December.

“Mr. Tremblay’s appointment is excellent news for the STM and shows the extent of the organization’s internal expertise and depth. It is therefore not surprising that Mr. Tremblay stood out. The skills and knowledge he demonstrated as Interim Director General reassured us in our decision,” said the Chair of the Board of Directors, Philippe Schnobb.

Mr. Tremblay declared that “it is with great pride and passion that I begin my mandate as Director General. I care deeply about the STM and its mission and I know I can count on competent, passionate and dedicated employees to accompany me during my mandate”.

Mr. Tremblay begins his new mandate with four major priorities. “First of all, it will be essential to pay greater attention to the clientele, seeking a better balance of customer experience, development of service and ridership in our next strategic plan. Secondly, we will have to adjust and work with our partners to make the new governance a success. Thirdly, we must continue to improve the STM’s finances to generate leeway by working on both our revenues and our expenditures. Finally, special attention must be paid to employee engagement and preparation of the succession,” Mr. Tremblay affirmed.

Selection process
The selection process identified 150 potential candidates, both locally and internationally. Six of them were recommended to the Selection Committee and four were interviewed.

The Selection Committee mandated to evaluate the candidates was composed of Philippe Schnobb, Chair of the Board of Directors, Marvin Rotrand, Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors, Marie Turcotte, paratransit users’ representative on the Board of Directors and Chair of the Human Resources Committee, and an independent member, Yves Séguin, lawyer and former Québec Minister of Finance. Odgers Berndtson, a major international firm specializing in senior executive recruiting and evaluation, accompanied the STM throughout this process.
