March 5 to August 26, 2012 inclusively: Saint-Mathieu entrance to Guy-Concordia station closed

Press release

Montréal, March 1, 2012 –  The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) wishes to inform customers that, in order to carry out renovation work on the west entrance building to Guy-Concordia station, it must temporarily shut it down. As a result, the Saint-Mathieu entryway will be closed to transit users from Monday March 5 to Sunday August 26, 2012, inclusively.

Customers can still access the station through the Guy St. entrance, which will remain open while the work is carried out. Turnstiles have already been added to handle an increased number of passengers and ensure that they flow smoothly through the station.

Transit users travelling on the southbound 165 – Côte-des-Neiges or 166 – Queen-Mary bus lines can remain on board until they reach the Guy St. entrance, instead of walking. Everyone else is invited to walk along De Maisonneuve boulevard to reach the entrance (less than 200 metres away). Signs with a map showing the route to take will also be posted on fences surrounding the work site.

Estimated at some $3.0 M, the renovations will consist mainly of demolishing and pouring new concrete floor slabs on the mezzanine and entrance levels in the Saint-Mathieu entryway, repairing four staircases, installing a water-proofing membrane, adding four water collectors (foot grilles), as well as correcting and/or channeling water infiltrations, replacing granite floors, ceramic tiles and wall finishes, improving accessibility by replacing the old doors by pivoting ones (butterfly style), including an automated one, improving the entrance building’s natural ventilation through the addition of new motorized shutters, replacing windows and adding new ones, replacing the current lighting system by a modular system that is both more efficient and architecturally pleasing and, lastly, completing a number of related plumbing and electricity projects, such as upgrading the fire alarm system.

Aware that these renovations will impact transit users in their daily commuting routine, the STM wishes to assure customers that every necessary measure was taken to ensure their safety, and that it has made every effort to keep inconvenience to a minimum.

These renovations are part of Phase 1 of the Réno-Infrastructures program, for which Transport Québec and the STM are financial partners.
