The STM Announces the Appointment of
Mrs. Karin Marks, Mayor of Westmount,
to the STM Board of Directors
Montreal, May 14, 2007 - The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) welcomes Mrs. Karin Marks, mayor of Westmount, as the newest member of the STM Board of Directors. Mrs. Marks was appointed last April 26 by Montréal’s agglomeration council to replace Mr. Yvon Labrosse, mayor of Montréal-Est.
Mrs. Marks has studied marketing, political science, education and professional development training. After teaching at the elementary level for two years, Mrs. Marks became the head of Dawson College’s Professionial Development department. She later initiated the adult continuing education programme at LaSalle College, followed by a move to industry, where she developed managerial training programmes in the garment manufacturing sector.
Following the municipal mergers of 2001, Mrs. Marks was elected president and mayor of the Borough of Westmount, holding a seat on the City of Montréal’s agglomeration council as the representative for Westmount’s municipal council. Elected to a second term as mayor in the municipal elections of November 6, 2005, Karin Marks brings with her over fifteen years of experience in public office.
Mrs. Marks is thrilled to take on the new challenges afforded to her as a member of the STM Board of Directors, especially since the development of public transportation on the Island of Montreal is of great interest to her.
“On behalf of the STM Board of Directors, I would like to thank Mr. Labrosse for his contribution to the transit corporation,” declared board chairman, Claude Trudel. “By the same token, I would like to wish a warm welcome to Mrs. Marks. I am convinced that her presence on the board will go a long way to helping the STM carry out both its mission and its projects.”
