Important message to transit users from the STM
should the situation causing an interruption
or métro service downtown continue

Montreal, August 26, 2007 - If the security perimeter in the downtown area is not removed on August 27, the Soct de transport de Montréal (STM) will have to keep Metro stations in the affected area closed. However, Atwater station will become accessible once again. The service interruption would therefore only extend between the Berri-UQAM and Atwater stations.

To compensate for the lack of service on the Green line between the Berri-UQAM and Atwater stations, shuttle buses will continue to run until service is restored, in reserved lanes on Ren-Lvesque Boulevard, both eastbound and westbound.

In order to offer this service, the Société de transport de Montréal is obliged to use buses that usually run elsewhere on the transit network. The STM must therefore inform passengers that, despite is best efforts to ensure optimal service, they may experience some inconvenience.

The STM is aware of the potential impact and, wishing to minimize inconvenience to transit users, presents a variety of solutions:

  • The Orange line, which is located a short distance to the south of the Green line and downtown, is a viable option inasmuch as it connects with the Berri-UQAM and Lionel-Groulx transfer stations.

  • Leaving earlier or later than usual to travel outside of rush hour.

  • Finally, passengers who usually take the Green line are invited to use the following tools that the STM has made available, in order to find an alternative to their habitual route:

- The A-U-T-O-B-U-S ([514] 288-6287) telephone line can be used to plan travel more effectively and obtain the schedule for the bus stop located near a passenger’s home.

- The STM’s Website (www.stm.info) can be used to check bus schedules and also contains a wealth of other useful information.

The STM regrets any inconvenience that this unusual situation has caused to transit users, and wishes to point out that its bus drivers are not responsible for service delays. We therefore ask for transit users’ patience and cooperation, and thank them in advance.

In conclusion, the STM reminds users that Metro service remains operational between the Atwater and Angrignon stations, as well as between Berri-UQAM and Honoré-Beaugrand.
