Shorter Trains on Weekends on the Métro's Line 1 - Green

{C}Montréal, January 6, 1997{C} - The STCUM wishes to advise its customers that as of Saturday January 11, 1997, trains on the métro's line 1 - green will consist of six cars instead of nine on weekends and holidays. This measure, already in effect on line 2 - orange, has allowed the STCUM to make substantial savings while maintaining the same frequency and quality of customer service.

As on the orange line, trains on the green line will stop as near as possible to the entrances and exits of stations. From 5:30 am Saturday morning until Sunday night, gates installed on the platform will indicate the front and rear of trains to commuters by closing off the section that is not being used. At the Lionel-Groulx station, because of its architecture, western extremities will be closed off, including the stairs.

No change is foreseen for line - 2 orange. Trains will remain shorter on weekends and holidays as of 9:00 pm on Friday.

This measure, which is already being applied in several American cities, will allow the STCUM to save over $400,000 on line 1 - green, notably at the level of car maintenance and electrical energy.
