Laurier Station
Reopening of the Laurier Street Access

Montréal, March 7, 1997 - The STCUM wishes to inform its customers that the secondary Laurier Station access, located on Laurier Street, will reopen on Monday, March 10 as the restoration work on the stairs will have been completed. These renovations were done within the framework of the historical buildings preservation program.

Laurier Station was one of the four stations equipped with automatic gates a few months ago. In relation to these gates and further to consulting with our customers, additional work has also been done in the past few months. Among the changes brought to facilitate the use of this new technology, it should be noted that at the entrance of the gates, luminous signals now inform customers on the validity of their fare and on procedures to follow before entering. A "contact mat"has also been installed to facilitate exit movements and modifications made to slide-through card-readers now allow access of these gates to holders of reduced-fare monthly passes. Since their installation, an STCUM employee has been posted at the gates in order to instruct commuters on the use of this new system. Because of the modifications brought and the increasing familiarity of commuters towards this new technology it won't be long before this assistance is no longer needed.
