American Public Transport Association awards STM rear-view camera pilot project

News

The STM was recognized at the annual American Public Transport Association (APTA) Mobility Conference for its pilot project testing rear-view cameras on buses.

The STM won the Bus Safety Gold Award in the category for public transportation systems providing more than 20 million annual passenger trips. The award recognizes initiatives that have achieved documented success in addressing specific improvements to the safety of transit employees, customers and other road users.

This kind of system helps reduce vehicle blind spots, increases the driver’s field of vision and improves visibility in difficult conditions (darkness, bright sunlight, tunnels, rain, snow, etc.). The pilot project is therefore likely to help improve safety for all road users while being consistent with the STM’s continuous improvement approach.

The STM is extremely proud to receive this award and to see its project recognized by key players in the North American public transit industry. This honour reflects well on all the employees involved in the project, and the STM would like to thank each one of them for contributing to the project’s success through their involvement.
