With a view to keeping its assets in good condition, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has awarded a contract worth $151,767,000 for the reconstruction of its Crémazie building, located at the corner of Crémazie and Saint-Laurent boulevards. Magil Construction Corporation is in charge of the work.

With a surface area of 41,000 square metres, the future building will house a major centre for bus maintenance, a centralized distribution centre, an employee training centre, bus engineering and operational planning offices.

As with all other recent STM construction projects, like the Stinson bus garage that opened in    2014, this new building will comprise the best sustainability practices, while aiming for LEED-NC certification at the Gold level. Noteworthy among them are the white reflective and green roof systems, superior energy efficiency, water retention and recycling, integration of natural light with efficient lighting, universal accessibility, heat recovery system, greening and landscaping, and more.

The work is necessary because the existing building’s structures are obsolete, and the needs and requirements of the different maintenance departments have evolved over time.

Construction will take place in three phases, staggered from summer 2017 to spring 2021.

Mitigation measures are being planned to lessen the impact on neighbours, including a noise-abatement wall covered with vegetation.

The work, funded in part by the Ministère des Transports, de la Mobilité durable et de l'Électrification des transports, will have no impact on transit service.
