UPDATED : Water infiltration at Beaubien métro station : official statement from the STM

News

After noticing abnormal water infiltration at the Beaubien metro station, the STM took the necessary steps to find the source of the problem quickly.

Situation update at 1:45 PM : The STM was able to determine that the leaking appears to be caused by snow thawing on a neighbouring lot. With the ground still frozen and not able to absorb this streaming water, it found its way down to the concrete walls of the station.

After noticing abnormal water infiltration at the Beaubien metro station, the STM took the necessary steps to find the source of the problem quickly.

As soon as the STM was informed of the leaks, engineering teams were dispatched to the site to identify the causes. On Thursday morning, the STM proceeded with outdoor watering of the station, again to identify the source of the leaks and thus plug them quickly.

Nothing indicates for the time being that the infiltrations are related to the repairs carried out last summer at the station, which required its closing during the summer season.

This situation had no impact on the métro service.

It is important to remember that the thaw periods can sometimes have impacts on underground infrastructure.
