Getting Around During the Summer

Getting Around During the Summer

Intense heat waves can make traveling more challenging during the summer. Here are a few tips for traveling comfortably and safely on the STM network during heat waves.

Before You Go

1. Plan your trips:

Check the weather forecast and schedule your outings for the coolest times of the day.

Dress lightly: wear loose-fitting, light-colored, breathable clothing. Protect your head with a hat. Stay hydrated: always bring a bottle of water, even for a short trip. Apply sunscreen if you have to walk to a stop or station.

2. Check service status before your trip

Check our customer information tools listed below.

3. Allow more time than usual

Buses also have to deal with traffic jams, fender-benders, and other road hazards. Increased ridership can also slow down boarding at bus stops and metro stations.

4. Buy your transit fare in advance

Buy your ticket in advance at one of the approximately 300 sales locations. Not sure which ticket to choose? Explore all ticket options here.

5. Keep your transit fare handy

When fares are validated quickly upon boarding, the seconds saved at each stop can make a difference in your arrival time.

During and after your trip

Drink regularly, even if you’re not thirsty.

Tips for Vulnerable People

Older adults, young children, pregnant women, and people with health conditions are at greater risk during heat waves. If you’re traveling with any of these people, be extra vigilant and don’t hesitate to shorten your trip if necessary.
