Two members representing customers appointed to STM Board of Directors

Press release

Montréal, February 2, 2022 – Having launched a call for applications last December, Éric Alan Caldwell, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), and Laurence Parent, Vice-Chair, have welcomed two new members to the Board of Directors: Suzanne Lareau, Representative of Public Transit Customers (bus and métro) and Sylvain Le May, Representative of Paratransit Customers (Transport adapté).

“First and foremost, I would like to welcome Ms. Lareau and Mr. Le May, our two newest Board members, who begin their terms today,” says Caldwell, who is also a city councillor and member of the City of Montréal Executive Committee for Hochelaga in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. “I am confident that they will more than rise to the occasion as voices of the diverse clienteles that the STM works daily to support by providing transportation via its bus, métro and paratransit networks. Their expertise and experience in public transit are sure to bring added value to the organization, both in terms of governance and in terms of our values, particularly openness, transparency and connection with customers. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all Montrealers who submitted applications.”

“It is our great pleasure to welcome Ms. Lareau and Mr. Le May,” adds Parent, who is a borough councillor for Le Plateau-Mont-Royal in addition to her role on the STM Board of Directors. “They have both been remarkably involved in the community for many years, advocating for sustainable transportation, and accessibility and the inclusion of people with disabilities, respectively. Each of their personal and professional backgrounds perfectly matched our expectations in terms of skills in different areas, including management, training and outreach to various institutions and governing bodies. The appointment of these two members has also maintained gender parity within the Board of Directors.”

The call for applications was held from December 13 to 27, 2021, during which time Montrealers were invited to apply via the STM website. The STM Corporate Secretariat coordinated the submission and processing of the more than 400 applications received, as well as the recommendation of candidates with the greatest potential. The City of Montréal, acting through its agglomeration council, made the final selections on January 27, 2022.
