In the context of the crisis resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) and the Syndicat des employées et employés professionnels-les et de bureau (SEPB 610 — office and professional employees’ union) have reached an agreement regarding the assignment of employees to perform backup cleaning duties. Specifically, some professional employees will be periodically assigned to disinfect equipment and clean buses, stations and métro cars.

Assignment to cleaning duties will begin on a voluntary basis. In total, up to 200 professional employees could be called upon to help.

The agreement, which complies with the collective agreement, ensures the continuation of essential public transit services for Montrealers. It will remain in effect until October 10, 2020.

The STM and the union wish to highlight the excellent cooperation of all parties and thank members of the negotiating committees for their efforts. This agreement perfectly illustrates professional employees’ sense of duty and the team spirit shared by the STM’s personnel during these exceptional times.

A second agreement
This is the second agreement between the STM and an employee group. On April 21, the STM announced that it had reached a similar agreement with the Syndicat du personnel administratif, technique et professionnel du transport en commun (administrative, technical and professional personnel union). Since then, XXX of these employees have been assigned to cleaning duties.
