The STM is proud to participate in the pilot project, L’économie sociale, j’achète! (The social economy: I buy it.). The Société will thus ensure that this type of enterprise is invited to participate in calls for proposals and, quality and price being equal, the STM will favour them.

Officially launched on September 12, 2013, this pilot project is designed to test in action strategies to enhance business relations between social economy enterprises and major Montréal institutions.

Twenty-seven social economy enterprises, representative of the diversity of the sectors of activity that are interested in penetrating these markets, are participating in the project.

Sustainable procurement practices
This commitment by the STM is in line with Priority 7 of the Sustainable Development Plan 2020, which deals with sustainable procurement. The STM has set an objective of integrating sustainable development criteria into 90% of its calls for tenders between now and 2020.

In addition to calling on enterprises from this sector, including caterers, the Société recently awarded a contract for the design and manufacture of multi-material recycling bins to Formétal, a non-profit business school.

For the STM, doing business with social economy enterprises is a good way to give back to the community while enriching Montréal’s economy.
