Universal accessibility: Outremont station under construction as of November

News

Starting in November 2020, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will begin a major refurbishment of Outremont station, and install three elevators to make it universally accessible.

More specifically, the work will involve:

  • replacing the waterproof membrane of the station’s underground roof
  • redoing the structural slab
  • adding a natural ventilation shaft on the entrance building roof
  • upgrading the electrical equipment
  • replacing the station’s roof
  • replacing the exterior covering, windows, floor finishes and lighting
  • installing new signage
  • restoring the work of art

The project, which will cost $53 million, will be carried out until December 2023. However, to perform such extensive work, the STM will have to close Outremont station from January 2022 to August 2022. Since this station has only one entrance building, it would have been impossible to carry out such major structural work and continue to accommodate customers safely. Moreover, this closure will allow some of the work to be completed more quickly. Obviously, appropriate mitigation measures will be implemented, and communicated to customers in a timely manner.

A virtual information session regarding the project will be held on October 26.
