Line 120 – Lachine/LaSalle:
A service improvement for travel in the
boroughs of Lachine and LaSalle

Montréal, March 24, 2010
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), Mr. Michel Labrecque, this morning announced a major service improvement for people using public transit to travel in the Lachine and LaSalle boroughs.

As part of the service improvement program begun in the fall of 2007 with the ongoing financial support of Transports Québec and the Ville de Montréal, the STM continues its momentum with a new measure that will go into effect on Monday, March 29 in the boroughs of Lachine and LaSalle,” stated Mr. Labrecque.

“In effect,” continued the chairman, “the introduction of line 120 – Lachine/LaSalle will provide a new and more rapid link between these two boroughs. Moreover, this new line will facilitate travel within each borough thanks to an optimized route and a limited number of stops.”

“Public transit between Lachine and LaSalle was particularly deficient and prompted our citizens to use their cars. Thus, it is with great satisfaction that we welcome line 120. I am convinced that many residents of LaSalle will use this new service, which is in keeping with the commitments in Montréal’s Transportation Plan,” declared Madam Manon Barbe, Mayor of LaSalle and Montréal Executive Committee member responsible for transportation.

This new service will be offered throughout the day from Monday to Friday (every 15 minutes during rush hour / 20 minutes outside rush hour). The service will start around 5:00 a.m. and will end when the métro closes at night.

It should be mentioned that, thanks to the improvements resulting from the addition of this line, Centre hospitalier de Lachine, LaSalle Borough Hall, L’Octogone library, LaSalle General Hospital, Place LaSalle and Cégep André-Laurendeau, in particular, will benefit from faster and more direct access to the Angrignon métro station.

“These improvements represent approximately 35 000 additional hours of service per year and will require the addition of eight buses. They are unquestionably another step in the development and improvement of our service offer to customers and are a positive reflection of the Société’s positioning to promote the use of public transit,” concluded Mr. Labrecque.

The Mayor of the borough of Lachine, Mr. Claude Dauphin, for his part, was delighted with this announcement, “as this new bus line, which will cross our borough from east to west, will respond to a real need expressed by several groups of Lachine residents. Consider the students who travel every day to Cégep André-Laurendeau or simply all citizens who need to access the Montréal métro on a daily basis. The latter will now be able to do so more directly and more frequently. It’s excellent news for Lachine,” stated Mr. Dauphin.

Clients are invited to consult the spring Planibus timetables containing the schedule for this line. For any other information on routes, clients can call STM-INFO (514-786-4636), consult the network map or visit the STM’s Web site (www.stm.info), which features plenty of useful information.
