Métro accessibility:
The STM begins elevator installation work at Henri-Bourassa station

Montréal, January 5, 2009 The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is going ahead with the implementation of its métro accessibility project. Indeed, elevator installation work will begin January 5 at Henri-Bourassa station.

Transit users will be slightly disrupted in their routine as of that date, as the Henri-Bourassa bus terminus will be temporarily relocated to the North Terminus until the end of June.

The North Terminus, less in use since the Orange line was extended to Laval, will see busier days during this temporary relocation, made necessary for the first phase of construction. Once buses return to the South Terminus, by the end of June 2009, installation work will continue underground until fall 2010.

Henri-Bourassa station will be undergoing major work, but the STM wishes to reassure clients that all necessary measures will be taken to minimize the inconvenience to passengers, including special indoor and outdoor signage to indicate the location of the temporary terminus to transit users, easily accessible from the station’s corridors.

The STM also wishes to emphasize that any inconveniences resulting from the construction work will be made up for by the advantages the new installations will bring, making Henri-Bourassa station a more accessible station to all clients.

Five stations along the Orange line are included in the first phase of implementation of the métro accessibility project. These are Lionel-Groulx, Bonaventure, Berri-UQAM, Henri-Bourassa and Côte-Vertu. Work, already underway in the first three stations, will begin in January 2009 at Henri-Bourassa and next spring at Côte-Vertu station.
