The STM expands service on route 54 Charland / Chabanel

Montreal, December 19, 2007 - The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is pleased to announce to its clientele that improved service on bus route 54 – Charland / Chabanel will take effect on Monday, January 7, 2008. Henceforth, this bus route will provide continuous daytime service on weekdays, every 30 minutes, between 9:29 a.m. and 2:49 p.m.

This additional service will provide greater availability to STM customers who already use this bus route during rush hours. The expanded schedule for this route to the Crémazie Metro station represents an extra 3,450 hours of service per year.

“This initiative is part of the service improvement program that was announced last month, which is intended to increase ridership and provide Montrealers with an even more efficient transit system,” declared the Chair of the STM’s Board of Directors, Mr. Claude Trudel. “This is very good news for customers in the northern part of the island of Montréal, who will now enjoy daytime service all week long. This service improvement clearly reflects the STM’s commitment to provide better transit service to its clientele in order to better meet its needs.”

“When we decided to move to 555, rue Chabanel Ouest, we immediately wished for improved service in that area; obviously, easier access to the borough offices for members of the public was one of our concerns. We are therefore extremely pleased with today’s announcement and proud of the work done by the STM/Ahuntsic-Cartierville Borough joint committee, which was created precisely with this improvement in mind,” explained Jocelyn Ann Campbell, City Councillor, Saint-Sulpice District and committee member representing the borough. “I’d like to take advantage of today’s announcement to thank the STM for its collaboration in this matter.”

“We are delighted with the STM’s decision to provide continuous daytime service on weekdays on route 54. This will provide users on Charland street with better access to the activities, resources and services provided by the borough. This is a fine example of the way that fees paid by STM users are reinvested in direct service to the public. We dare to hope that this announcement is only the first in a series of announcements by the STM regarding measures to improve the availability and quality of public transit,” commented Mrs. Anie Samson, Mayor of the Borough of Villeray – Saint-Michel – Parc-Extension.

The new schedule of route 54 – Charland / Chabanel, which serves residential, industrial and commercial areas, will improve access to the businesses on Chabanel street and at the March Central.
