End of work at Saint-Michel Station

News

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is pleased to announce the completion of the rehabilitation work at Saint-Michel Station and the full reopening of the secondary entrance, which had been closed since September 19, 2025.

Launched in 2024 at a cost of $14 million, the project required the closure of each of the station’s two entrances in order to complete the following work:

  • Demolition and reconstruction of the concrete slab for the entrance building
  • Demolition and reconstruction of the concrete slab for the secondary entrance building
  • Demolition and reconstruction of two staircases
  • Resurfacing of the exterior slab
  • Refurbishment of mechanical rooms
  • Concrete repair work in the natural ventilation shaft

The restoration of Sandro-Pertini Park, located behind the secondary entrance, will be completed in the coming weeks.

Asset Maintenance Remains a Priority

It should be recalled that this work led to the discovery, in the fall of 2024, of significant deterioration in two main beams located above the pedestrian overpass following assessments conducted by STM engineering teams. The findings resulted in the complete closure of Saint-Michel Station for 39 days.

With 46% of its assets currently rated as being in poor or very poor condition, STM continues to underscore the importance of investing in the maintenance and renewal of its infrastructure. Following the agreements reached between the Government of Québec and the Government of Canada on June 2 regarding the Canada Public Transit Fund (CPTF), STM will advocate for this new funding to prioritize asset maintenance and renewal in order to address the $7 billion infrastructure investment deficit accumulated over recent years.
