Acquisition of AZUR metro cars : STM finalist for a prestigious international project management award

News

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is very proud to be one of the three finalists for the PMI-International Project of the Year Award for its project to acquire the AZUR metro cars. The purpose of this award is to give international recognition for excellence in project management.

The MPM-10 project office was established in 2006 and comprised around 150 STM employees and consultants. The office coordinated all stages of acquisition and integration of the new AZUR metro cars, including car design and manufacturing, qualification of the rolling stock on the STM site, commissioning of the rolling stock for passenger use, upgrading of infrastructures, as well as training of maintenance and operating employees. It also handled the reclamation of the original MR-63 cars. The STM project was also notable for its consultations held with customers on various aspects of the metro cars, including interior design, universal accessibility and the name AZUR. All stages of the $2.4 billion project were performed by an experienced team, which established rigorous world-class project management processes.

In December 2018, the STM made a name for itself with the same project, which won the PMI-Montréal Project of the Year Award. With this success under its belt, the STM submitted its application for the international award, for which it is now a finalist, together with Embraer in Brazil and Oil and Natural Gas Corp. Ltd. and L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering in India. The winner will be announced in Philadelphia on October 5.
