Efforts put forward by Société de transport de Montréal (STM), in collaboration with Mobilité Montréal, to increase service in the sector surrounding the Turcot, Bonaventure and Champlain construction sites and to improve the customer experience are showing results.

Since a series of measures to promote public transit use was implemented last fall, STM has indeed noted a significant increase in ridership on both bus and métro networks in the greater Sud-Ouest sector between October and January.

As a result:

  • For the métro, thanks in part to an additional train during rush hour, STM noted an increase of about 5% in entries at stations in the Sud-Ouest portion of the Green line (Angrignon to Charlevoix).
    • On average, that represents some 1 500 more people per weekday taking the métro in that area.
  • For the bus network, thanks in part to the addition of over 130 runs, STM noted an increase of about 3% in the numbers aboard the 13 targeted lines that converge toward the métro’s Green line.
    • On average, that represents some 1 000 more per weekday.

Moreover, thanks to the distribution of 10 000 free OPUS cards loaded with 10 rides to motorists around the work sites, some 72 000 public transit rides were taken.

Keep in mind that these measures, ongoing throughout 2017, are entirely funded by the Ministry of Transport, Sustainable Mobility and Transportation Electrification along with the City of Montréal to make travelling to downtown easier and offer alternatives to single-car use, with a view to improving the customer experience and unclogging roadways.
