The list of honours and awards garnered by the STM’s Stinson bus garage keeps on growing. Today, this exceptional sustainability project was rewarded with a Corporate Leadership award in the Environment category by the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA). STM’s chief executive officer, Luc Tremblay, accepted the award on behalf of the company at a gala ceremony as part of CUTA annual conference in Halifax.

What convinced the jury
With a LEED Gold certification obtained in August 2015, this unique building, capable of housing 200 standard buses and 100 articulated ones, is the first project of this type to receive such a certification in Québec and one of the very few in Canada. STM also integrated cutting-edge sustainability measures in every aspect of the project.

The benefits of such a choice for the STM are numerous, particularly in terms of energy efficiency. As such, the garage consumes 60% less energy per square foot than STM’s other similar buildings, which translates into recurrent savings of some one million dollars ($1,000,000) a year. The 700 employees work in an exceptional work environment and the importance given to the building’s design and its integration in its immediate surroundings contribute to enhancing the neighbourhood’s urban fabric, in Saint-Laurent borough.

Such exceptional results made it possible for the Stinson bus garage to receive several award in fields as diverse as sustainability, engineering, project management, architecture and public transit.
