Agreement between the STM and its maintenance union

Press release

A late-night agreement was reached, concluding negotiations on the renewal of the collective agreement, between the STM and the maintenance union.

Montréal, February 28, 2019 – Following marathon negotiations from February 25 to 28, 2019, under the guidance of STM chief executive officer Luc Tremblay and union president Gleason Frenette, and further to the recommendation of the mediator appointed by the Government of Quebec, a late-night agreement was reached, concluding negotiations on the renewal of the collective agreement.

Both parties committed to filing the agreement with their respective authorities, namely the STM Board of Directors and the general assembly of union members.

Following more than 170 meetings between the two parties and the contribution of a mediator appointed by the Government of Quebec, the STM had made a final global offer on February 19 that included an enhanced monetary element, an interesting opening in the employee pension plan, a reduction in overtime and an increase in the number of new positions. More positions would allow more flexible evening and weekend schedules, which would ensure 24-hour maintenance and deliver an improved customer experience.

The STM is satisfied with the outcome of this lengthy negotiation, but will offer no further comment until the agreement is ratified.
