Montréal, April 10, 2015 – In spite of the regrettable incidents taking place earlier this week in the métro, the chairman of the STM board of directors, Philippe Schnobb, wishes to reassure transit customers and employees, reminding them that the métro system is quite safe.

Customer surveys carried out in the past few years show that people feel very safe in the métro, at any given time, with satisfaction levels in excess of 90%. « Our inspectors and officers are doing an excellent job of ensuring the safety and security of people in the métro. Furthermore, having cameras and additional staff adds to the feeling of safety, while the presence of passengers filling the space also makes it feel safer. The incidents that happened this week are isolated, unrelated situations that in no way reflect the day-to-day environment. It’s simply an unfortunate set of circumstances, » explained Mr. Schnobb.

The STM is cooperating with the police investigations that followed in the wake of the events at Henri-Bourassa and Rosemont stations. It is also providing support to employees affected by them.
