Skylights in Préfontaine station will be restored: Alternating closures of both entrances

Press release

Montréal, March 14, 2013   – The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) wishes to inform customers that renovations being carried out in Préfontaine station will result in the temporary closing of the northern entrance of the station at first, from March 18 to April 28. The southern entrance will be closed in a second phase, from April 29 to July 14.

Since both entrances are facing each other, customers can easily gain access to the station at any time during the entire renovation process. No bus stops will be relocated.

The job site will begin with the complete replacement of glass plates along with the accordion-shaped steel structure that make up the architectural glass roof.

The STM will take the opportunity during the renovation work to make further upgrades in the station. These improvements involve the replacement of pivoting doors, windows, and acrylic domes, indoor and outdoor lighting upgrades, the replacement of a concrete slab, waterproofing membrane and granite flooring inside the south entrance. Also, this additional work to be carried out until October will not affect public access to the station.

This project is part of the first phase of the Réno-Infrastructures program achieved with the financial partnership of the Québec Ministry of Transportation and the STM.

It should be mentioned that Préfontaine station was inaugurated in 1976 and welcomes approximately 1.3 million people every year.
