Closing of University entrance of McGill métro station

Press release

Montréal, October 31, 2012   In order to allow for renovations to be completed, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) wishes to inform customers of the temporary closing of the University entrance at McGill métro station from Monday, November 5 to December 20, 2012 inclusively.

However, customers may use the northern entrance on Union Avenue located at 2021, Union Avenue. No bus stops will be moved during this renovation phase.

The University entrance renovation work being carried out during this period consits in replacing the travertine marble tiles that adorn the station walls. It is interesting to point out that these tiles were recovered from platform and mezzanine walls during an earlier stage of the project.

Mindful of the disruption anticipated in customer travel patterns during this project, the STM wishes to reassure customers that every measure has been taken to ensure their safety and to minimize inconveniences.

This first phase of the project is managed within the Réno-Infrastructures program with the financial support of Transport Québec and the STM.

It should be mentioned that McGill métro station is the second busiest one in the network with close to 12 million passenger rides recorded in 2011. The renovation contract involving this station amounts to $3.7M for work completed between March 2012 and March 2013. Additional projects are scheduled to be carried out in this station until 2017. These will entail the award of other contracts for their completion.
