The STM enhances its offer of bus service at Pointe Claire, Pine Beach and Dorval commuter train stations

Montréal, December 7, 2010
Working with Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT), the STM will offer more service on some of the bus routes serving the Pointe Claire, Pine Beach and Dorval train stations, starting January 3, 2011, thereby completing the first phase of train-bus synchronization it had planned for 2010, involving the 203 – Carson at Pointe Claire station, and the 204 – Cardinal at both Pine Beach and Dorval stations on the Vaudreuil-Hudson commuter train line. As a result, the 203 bus route will now offer a total of 18 departures during morning and afternoon rush hour to ensure that one bus meets each train arriving at Pointe Claire station. The 204 bus route will feature seven departures during morning rush hour, each one synchronized with a train serving Pine Beach station, and another eight departures during afternoon rush hour, once again synchronized with trains serving Dorval.

"By improving the 203 and 204 bus route schedules, commuters will enjoy improved synchronization with morning and afternoon trains. This represents approximately 1700 additional hours of service annually, in addition to the 170 000 hours already invested annually in the West Island network since 2007. This initial phase will be followed by a second one in Fall 2011, ensuring that a maximum number of 201, 205, 206, 208 and 209 buses arrive in time for commuters to catch their train in the morning and, conversely, ensuring that a maximum number of buses meet commuters arriving from the train," declared Marvin Rotrand, Vice-chairman of the STM Board of Directors.

"Synchronizing public transit services will help AMT and STM hold on to their clients. The two partner organizations in this project are implementing a number of actions to meet their customers’ needs. The synchronization of buses and trains serving the Pointe Claire, Pine Beach and Dorval commuter train stations is the culmination of the first phase. This initiative, among several others, makes modal transfers more appealing, as customers who leave their car behind in favour of public transit are entitled to added value in return," declared Joël Gauthier, AMT President and CEO.
