STM adds more buses on several routes serving
Beaconsfield and Roxboro-Pierrefonds train stations

Montréal, August 31, 2010
STM, in collaboration with AMT, now offers more service on several bus routes serving Beaconsfield and Roxboro-Pierrefonds commuter train stations. Indeed, the STM is initiating the first phase of train-bus synchonization, starting with the 200 – Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, 217 – Anse-à-l’Orme and 261 – Trainbus Saint-Charles bus routes serving Beaconsfield station on the Vaudreuil-Hudson train line, as well as with the 265 – Trainbus Île-Bizard and 268 – Trainbus Pierrefonds serving the Roxboro-Pierrefonds station on the Deux-Montagnes train line.

From now on, buses on the 200, 217 and 261 routes will stop at the train station 67 times during each morning and afternoon rush hour period to ensure connecting bus service with every train stopping at Beaconsfield station. Meanwhile, buses on the 265 and 268 routes will stop at their train station some 41 times during each morning and afternoon rush hour period, also synchronized with trains stopping at Roxboro-Pierrefonds station. This initial phase will be followed by others in 2011, ensuring that clients have access to a maximum number of buses to catch their morning train and, conversely, that a maximum number of buses await passengers arriving on the afternoon trains.

“This initiative is yet another step in our ongoing service improvement process for public transportation in Montréal’s West Island. Following public consultations in 2007 and 2008, we started by deploying full day service on the 470 – Express Pierrefonds in 2007, on the 209 – Des Sources and 210 – John-Abbott in 2008, followed by improved airport service with the 209 – Des Sources in 2009 and 747 – Express Bus in 2010,” declared Marvin Rotrand, Vice-chairman of the STM Board of Directors. This represents some 5 000 additional hours of service per year, on top of the 170 000 hours invested annually in the West Island transit network since 2007.”

“Improved synchronization between public transit services is synonymous with faster service and an enhanced public transit experience. It is with great pleasure that we fulfill our clients needs and work with the STM to coordinate our schedules and improve service. In addition to promoting the intermodal aspect of public transit, synchronized bus and train service will result in lessening pressure on the usage of our park-and-ride lots, while further encouraging citizens to leave their cars behind and use public transportation instead,” added Joël Gauthier, AMT President and CEO.

“Once again this year, public transit services are enhanced in Pierrefonds-Roxboro. Last June, some 8 000 annual hours of service were added on the 470 – Express Pierrefonds. Today, with the increase in bus service to Roxboro-Pierrefonds train station, our citizens will enjoy even greater freedom to use this environmentally-friendly means of transportation. We can and will continue to do even more to promote and facilitate the use of public transit,” emphasized Mrs. Monique Worth, Mayor of Pierrefonds-Roxboro.

“Thanks to these improvements, L’Île-Bizard–Sainte-Geneviève Borough residents will be better served by Montréal’s public transit system. We can only welcome the introduction of these new measures by STM,” concluded Borough Mayor Richard Bélanger.
