Nuit blanche with the STM:
A resounding success!

Montréal, March 1, 2010
For the sixth time, the Société de transport de Montréal was a partner in Nuit blanche, which was celebrating its seventh edition.

MÉTRO
The métro, open throughout the night on this occasion, benefited many festival-goers. It is estimated that between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m. some 35 000 celebrants profited from the overnight service provided by the STM.

Based on this estimate, we can conclude that more festival-goers took advantage of the overnight métro service than during last year’s event, when close to 20 000 people used the métro between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.

SHUTTLES
Again this year STM bus drivers and heads of operation were at work to ensure that the night owls were successfully transported to the various cultural locations. A total of 26 low-floor buses spread over six circuits criss-crossed the city. For the first time, the STM also provided paratransit service to its clients.

ACTIVITIES IN THE MÉTRO

Karaoke Opera (Place-des-Arts station)
A Nuit blanche featuring a full choir of voices, and a successful first at the Place-des-Arts station, with more than 1 500 people attending the Karaoke Opéra event, presented by Opéra de Montréal and La Chaîne Karaoké in collaboration with the STM and Place des Arts.

For the occasion, 70 people transformed themselves into opera singers for a day – or rather a night! The audience warmly applauded them all. The atmosphere was magical, and the crowd started singing the most beautiful operatic arias with unbridled pleasure. It all unfolded in the presence of singers from Opéra de Montréal’s Atelier lyrique.

Art exhibition in the métro (Underground Art)
This foray by Art contemporain into the métro stations and other underground corridors experienced an unexpectedly high attendance for a first endeavour, with thousands of people taking the opportunity to discover art outside its usual environment.

STM PERSONNEL JOIN IN

The Société would like to thank the some 300 employees who worked to make Nuit blanche a success in the STM’s installations and aboard its rolling stock.

The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is pleased with its participation in the event and looks on this 2010 edition of Nuit blanche as a positive experience. We can conclude by saying: mission accomplished!
