The STM teams up with the Regroupement des Magasins-Partage as part of Opération sac à dos

Montréal, August 25, 200
9 The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is proud to announce a first partnership with the Regroupement des Magasins-Partage de l’Île de Montréal (RMPIM), as part of the latter’s Opération Sac à dos, a fund drive that will help provide thousands of Montréal families facing difficulties with access to public transit for the start of the school year and year-end holiday celebrations.

The STM is therefore making it possible for RMPIM volunteers to solicit Montréal transit users on August 28, from 7 to 9 a.m. and from 4 to 6 p.m., inside Square Victoria, Bonaventure, Radisson and McGill metro stations. The STM will also campaign to promote the fund raising. Information will appear on Métrovision screens and Télécité displays inside the métro, as well as on the Info STM page in the Métro newspaper.

“We salute this initiative by the RMPIM and we appreciate their efforts to encourage the use of public transportation,” emphasized Denise Vaillancourt, Executive Director of the STM’s planning, marketing and communications branch. “The STM is indeed aware of the fact that access to public transit is an important factor in ensuring social mobility. Thus, the STM wants to do its share by opening its doors to the group for their back-to-school fund drive and promoting access to public transit among the disadvantaged by offering them transit fares.”
