The STM joins Earth Hour,
the international solidarity movement

Montréal, March 27, 200
9 - The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is proud to be a part of the 2009 movement of international solidarity, Earth Hour, held Saturday March 28, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.

In cooperation with its operations management team, the STM will ask all employees to turn out the lights where possible at the given time and date. It will also ask employees working in its administrative offices to turn out their lights, computer, photocopiers and fax machines before leaving their work station on Friday, March 27. The STM is also inviting its clients and business partners to join the movement.

“From its strong commitment to sustainable development and determination to position itself as a leader in environmental issues, the STM is repeating last year’s initiative. Turning off lights, computers and other work tools for an hour is perhaps minor, but there is no doubt that it helps in making a difference and, more so, sends a clear message: that we care about our planet,” declared STM Board Vice-chairman, Marvin Rotrand.

“We must understand that each one of us has a role to play in the fight against climate change, in such as way as to broaden the scope of our commitment so that it becomes more than just another symbolic event. And it’s easy: all you need to do is register your name on the movement’s website at www.earthhourcanada.org ,” concluded Mr. Rotrand.

Earth hour is a global movement, initiated world-wide by WWF, the World Wildlife Fund for nature, who also invites businesses, cities and individuals to show their solidarity and take action in favour of the environment.
