Tennis Canada renews its partnership with the STM
Fans who purchase a Rogers Cup ticket will receive two free public transportation passes

Montréal, July 6, 200
9 Eugène Lapierre, Tournament Director of the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank and Vice-President of Quebec Professional Tennis, and Michel Labrecque, President of the Board for Montreal’s Transportation Society (STM), are pleased to announce that Tennis Canada and the STM have renewed their successful partnership which will encourage tennis fans attending this year’s tournament to use public transportation during the week of the event. “This is a partnership where everybody wins,” commented Mr. Lapierre. “Our ticket holders will be able to benefit from free public transportation for the day that corresponds to their ticket and Tennis Canada is adding an element to its green plan all while doing its part for the environment. We are excited to have the STM aboard on this project and we hope to continue this initiative for many years to come.”

“Besides the privilege of traveling for free on STM buses or subways, tennis fans who attend the Rogers Cup this summer will have the chance to win, on-site at Uniprix Stadium, fully charged Opus cards for a year,” said Mr. Labrecque.

“Our partnership with Tennis Canada is very much in line with the STM’s efforts to encourage people to take advantage of public transportation, “ added Mr. Labrecque. “The partnership also reflects the STM’s commitment to sustainable development as well as our desire to integrate these initiatives into our everyday functions as a means to protect the environment and promote public transportation.”

This partnership is a pillar of Tennis Canada’s green plan, which was launched in 2008. To further accentuate the transportation aspect of Tennis Canada’s environmental initiatives, secured bike racks will be available on-site for fans who want to bring their bike to the tournament and a shuttle bus service will be offered to travel from the primary downtown hotels to Uniprix Stadium. Tennis Canada has put in place numerous additional projects to help protect the environment (compensation for greenhouse gas emissions, a recycling program, compost and awareness).

In 2008, 41% of fans who attended the Rogers Cup presented by National Bank used public transportation at least once to travel to the tournament.
