Osheaga festival: the STM in concert with Osheaga
Montréal, July 29, 2009 – The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is proud to support the Osheaga Music and Arts Festival held next August 1-2 at Parc Jean-Drapeau, as part of the outdoor concert series presented this summer by the Gillett Entertainment Group. For these two days, and in cooperation with GEG, the STM will offer free public transit to festival-goers whose ticket features the STM logo. To enjoy their free public transit, they need only show their festival tickets to bus drivers and métro fare collectors. This year, the STM will again be on-site with its Funanbus, so that people attending the festival can enjoy the meeting place created by the STM. Located on a hill, this original gathering area is meant to house exhibits and discoveries during major events. It is worth noting that all elements composing the Funanbus are made from recycled materials. Behind this massive repurposing project is artist Vincent Vandebrouck, well-known for his environmental creations supporting sustainable development, including Espace Sedna in the Old Port. Such STM initiatives tie in directly with the corporation’s commitment to sustainable development and its position in favour of public transit use. While the STM hopes that everyone enjoys the festival, it is also counting on large numbers of young and not-so-young people to use public transit when heading out to Parc Jean-Drapeau during that weekend and on many to go see the Funanbus. – 30 –
