Introducing the 21 – Place du Commerce bus route

Montréal, August 20, 200
9 The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is introducing a new bus service on Nuns’ Island designed with Place du Commerce and Bell Campus workers in mind. The 21 – Place du Commerce bus route will begin service on August 31.

“The introduction of this new service is the result of joint efforts by the STM and the Borough of Verdun,” declared the Chairman of the STM Board of Directors, Michel Labrecque. “As part of our service improvement programme, the initiative raises the level of service for our clients in expanding sectors. The new service will make it even easier for thousands of workers in these sectors to choose public transportation, while minimizing the drawbacks related to car use, for the benefit of the entire community.”

“Adding a new bus route between the LaSalle métro station and the northern tip of Nuns’ Island, one that goes by Place du Commerce, will improve public transit services for 4000 Bell Campus employees and increase access for employees working for the many businesses located in Place du Commerce, including Groupe Pages Jaunes,” declared the Mayor of Verdun, Claude Trudel.

The 21 – Place du Commerce bus will run every 30 minutes from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m., Monday to Friday, in the southbound direction only, a trip that will take about 15 minutes. Indeed, the northbound 12 – Ile des Soeurs bus runs all day and already goes by Place du Commerce and Campus Bell on its way to LaSalle metro station.

“Adding this bus route means adding nearly 1000 hours of service a year and requires an extra bus to provide the service,” explained Mr. Labrecque. “The new service also clearly shows the STM’s determination to promote public transit use and contribute to protecting the environment.”
