The STM expands service
on line 86 Pointe-aux-Trembles

Montreal, March 14, 2008 - The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is pleased to inform its clientele that expanded service on bus route 86 – Pointe-aux-Trembles will take effect on Monday, March 17, 2008. As of then, this bus route will provide increased daytime service on weekdays with buses at 15-minute intervals between 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., and on the weekend with buses at 15-minute intervals between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

This additional service will provide greater availability to STM customers who already use this bus route during rush hour. The increase of 4 500 hours of service per year will thus extend the frequency of this route serving the sector’s institutions and businesses.

« This service improvement clearly reflects the STM’s commitment to provide its customers with a better public transit service and thus better meet their needs », stated the Chairman of the STM’s Board of Directors, Claude Trudel. « The new period of service on bus route 86 – Pointe-aux-Trembles will result, in particular, in reducing the waiting time for clients. »

« Our citizens in Pointe-aux-Trembles will be able to travel more easily within their neighbourhood, whether it’s to go to the library, to the arena, to the two high schools, to the CLSC, or to the Roussin and le Mainbourg community centres », explained Cosmo Maciocia, mayor of the borough of Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles. « It will also give them better access to the buses running on Sherbrooke Street, enabling them to take the métro at the Honoré-Beaugrand station. In addition, line 86 runs to Henri-Bourassa and Maurice-Duplessis Boulevards, thus creating a convenient link with the Rivière-des-Prairies sector ».

« I am pleased to recognize the STM’s efforts to provide better service to the citizens of our municipality, from the south to the north of the city, from Notre-Dame Street to Henri-Bourassa Boulevard », explained Yvon Labrosse, mayor of the city of Montréal-Est. « This addition will facilitate travel for a great number of our citizens, be they students or workers. In addition, this route will also provide quicker access to other routes that run to the Honoré-Beaugrand métro ».

We invite customers to consult the March Planibus schedule for line 86, which contains the new timetable listing the departures throughout the day. For any other route-related information, customers are invited to call STM-INFO
