Improvements to bus service in Saint-Laurent Borough

Montreal, 3 January 2006- Beginning January 9, the STM will introduce some changes to bus services in Saint-Laurent Borough to improve public transit in the Bois-Franc residential area, as well as in the Liberty Sites industrial sector.

To that end, the 70 – Bois-Franc and 71 – Pitfield bus routes will be merged, and the newly expanded 70 – Bois-Franc bus route will provide transit service Monday to Friday, from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. to the Bois-Franc area, industries along Poirier Street, Place Vertu shopping centre and the Liberty Sites industrial sector. On weekends, however, buses will follow the route currently in effect.

The shared taxi service provided since May 2004 will be cancelled during the day, but will continue to operate in the evenings, from 10:30 p.m. to 00:15 a.m. from Sunday to Thursday, and from 11:30 p.m. to 00:15 a.m. on Fridays. Ridership has steadily increased since the service was introduced and current levels justify the new daytime bus service on weekdays. The STM estimates the new 70 – Bois-Franc bus route should generate about 500 trips.

This service improvement is part of the STM’s 2004-2008 Business Plan, aimed at improving customer satisfaction by establishing a link between the Borough’s industrial sectors and the métro.

To find out more about this new service, transit users should consult the Planibus for the 70 – Bois-Franc bus route or call STM-INFO (786-4636). They can also consult the STM’s website at www.stm.info for more useful transit information.
