Le Mondial SAQ – Montreal International Fireworks Competition
The STM increases métro service and adjusts bus service

Montreal, 28 July 2003 – The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) will boost métro service on Wednesday July 30 for the fireworks closing performance by adding trains on the 1 – Green, 2 – Orange and 4 – Yellow lines. Because the event generates a significant increase in métro ridership, no bicycles will be allowed as of 3 p.m.

The STM recommends that métro users purchase their return ticket ahead of time, to avoid waiting in line, as ridership levels are usually much heavier after the event than before.

For enthusiasts who would like to see the fireworks display from La Ronde, the best way to get there is to take the 4 – Yellow métro line to Jean-Drapeau station. From there, the 167 – Les Zles bus, heading towards La Ronde, will take them directly to the amusement park’s entrance.

Bus Service
As for the bus network, service will be slightly modified to adjust to the situation. Indeed, several bus routes running south of Sherbrooke (between Papineau and Frontenac) will inevitably be slowed down. Buses affected to the 168 – Cité-du-Havre will not have access to Cité du Havre from 10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. As for the 169 Zle Ronde bus route, service will be suspended as of 7:50 p.m.

Between 8 p.m. and midnight, the following bus routes will be modified:

  • 10 – De Lorimier
  • 30 – Saint-Denis/Saint-Hubert
  • 34 – Sainte-Catherine
  • 55 – Saint-Laurent
  • 94 – Iberville

Transit users are invited to call the TELBUS number appearing on their bus stop panel when planning their transportation to these events. For trip information, please call A-U-T-O-B-U-S (288-6287). More useful information can be found on the STM’s website at www.stm.info.
