Series of measures to encourage the use of public transit

Montréal, June 17, 2021 – With the upcoming ARTM fare redesign implementation on July 1, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) would like to remind its customers of a series of measures that it is taking to encourage them to choose public transit for their everyday travel needs.

These include:

  • Standardizing the 40% discount for full-time students ages 18 and up.
  • Improving the offer that allows children age 11 and under to ride for free while accompanied by a chaperone at least 14 years old who holds a valid fare (maximum five children) and making it effective at all times.
  • Keeping the STM single fare price at $3.50.
  • Taking part in the City of Montréal initiative that finances an additional discount for customers age 65 and up and gives 70% off to STM customers (regular and Transport adapté) who hold photo OPUS cards. The discount will apply to monthly, 4-month and weekly passes, 10-trip, 2-trip and 1-trip fares and subscriptions.

Customers will be able to purchase monthly passes for July from some 400 authorized retailers or within the métro network beginning on June 20. To that end, the STM has rolled out contactless terminals at métro station fare booths to ensure safe payments, particularly in the current context.
