STM announces implementation of priority measures for buses and taxis on Robert-Bourassa Boulevard

The lane will take effect as of September 7

Montréal, September 2, 2020 – The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is announcing the implementation of a northbound reserved lane for buses and taxis on Robert-Bourassa Boulevard north, between Saint-Paul and Saint-Jacques and between Viger and De la Gauchetière, at the south entrance to the business district in the Ville-Marie borough. The lane will take effect as of September 7.

Both reserved sections total 350 metres in length (northbound only) and will be in effect Monday to Frid.ay, 6:00 a.m. to 7 p.m. In a second phase, other bus priority measures will be added on Robert-Bourassa. The establishment of these first sections of reserved lane is intended to increase the flow of bus traffic in the context of the major works underway downtown. An extension to the reserved lane is planned for 2021, as is the installation of candlestick lights, activated by real-time requests for priority, at strategic intersections. This will improve bus service regularity and travel times in this area.

These measures will benefit approximately 13,300 trips daily, with 8,400 mostly during peak periods, on lines 35, 36, 61, 168, 178 and 420. The implementation of this initial section of the reserved lane is intended to improve bus traffic flow in light of several obstructions downtown due to ongoing major worksites.

This work is made possible through funding from the Ministère des Transports du Québec.
