The STM files an application to put an end to maintenance union pressure tactics

News

The STM filed this morning an application with the Tribunal administratif du travail for an order to stop the maintenance employees union’s pressure tactics.

Montréal, February 13, 2019 – This morning, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) filed an application with the Tribunal administratif du travail, under the Labour Code, for an order to stop the maintenance employees union’s pressure tactics.

These tactics, used in the context of negotiations and mediation efforts, have an impact on a service to which the population is entitled. As such, the STM has asked the Tribunal to make these work slowdown activities illegal and order the union to end them immediately.

The STM requested that the union begin negotiations in December 2016, i.e., one year before the collective agreement’s renewal date, to provide enough time for things to be done properly. The STM still believes that it is possible to reach a negotiated solution, while upholding its obligations to the public.

The STM has no further comment at this time.
