300 additional buses for the STM - NOVA BUS wins the contract

News

Following a call for tenders launched last January, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) has awarded a $941 million contract to NOVA BUS for the acquisition of a maximum of 830 hybrid buses, which are scheduled for delivery between 2020 and 2024.

The awarding of this contract is in keeping with the municipal administration’s goal of acquiring 300 additional buses for the STM by 2020 to improve customer experience by making the bus service more reliable, while also moving closer to achieving the STM’s Organizational Strategic Plan 2025. This contract will also enable the STM to replace certain buses at the end of their service life.

The STM is scheduled to receive 375 buses in 2020, 105 in 2021, 112 in 2022, 100 in 2023 and 138 in 2024.

The buses will be assembled at the NOVA BUS plant in Saint-Eustache. This meets the Québec government’s requirement for there to be a minimum of 25% Canadian content and for final assembly to be in Canada.

NOVA BUS’s total contract is now almost $2 billion for a maximum of 1,525 buses, as the STM is the authorized agent for awarding contracts for the eight other transit authorities in Quebec. The awarding of this contract is conditional of the government's autorization.

The acquisition of these buses will be funded through various government public transit assistance programs in place.
