For a second straight year, Corporate Knights, a magazine focused on sustainability, has included STM among a select group of mid-size Canadian corporations that stand out for their exemplary responsible practices. STM ranks seventh in Canada and second in Québec, in a list made public this morning. STM also ranks second overall in the transportation industry in Canada.

Such an excellent result can only help confirm the quality and thoroughness of STM’s approach to sustainability, especially as it was recently honoured with two Durabilys awards from the Conseil du bâtiment durable du Québec, including one in the ‘social responsibility of companies and organizations’ category.

Admissibility criteria

To establish its Future 40 Responsible Leaders in Canada ranking, Corporate Knights analyzed the sustainability and socially responsible performance of Canadian corporations with revenues under $2 billion before selecting the top 40. The ranking system is based on a dozen indicators that measure efficient resource consumption, good governance and human resource management.

According to the specialized magazine, the STM stands out particularly because of its efficient management of residual materials and of the diversity in its management team and board of directors.
