From March 18 to October 2013 The entrance to the Champ-de-Mars station is moving

Communiqué

Montréal, March 14, 2013   – As part of Phase 2 of the work being carried out at Champ-de-Mars station, and in order to maintain customer access to the station, the Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is building a temporary entrance that can be accessed via Viger Avenue. From this coming Sunday evening to October 2013, everything will be in place to greet customers at this new location: turnstiles, fare collector booth and automatic fare vending machine.

This will allow the STM to continue its work making the station universally accessible through the installation of three new elevators. Over the next seven months, the STM will build elevator shafts, extend the upper portion of the mezzanine and finish the underground passageway connecting the station to the CHUM Research Centre (CRCHUM).

Under its 2012-2015 Universal Access Development Plan, the STM has committed to installing elevators in the following stations by 2015: Champ-de-Mars, Mont-Royal and Snowdon. The stations were chosen on the basis of evaluation criteria established by Montréal’s metro accessibility committee. These criteria included ridership, intermodality, equitable distribution over the STM territory in relation to other projects under way, and the stations’ surroundings (hospitals, schools, tourism, culture, etc.).

Up to 82.5% of eligible expenditures relating to the work carried out at the Champ-de-Mars station in the coming months will be financed by the provincial (52.5%) and federal (30%) governments.
