The STM announces an improvement of service to Mount Royal Park

Montréal, June 12, 2017 – Société de transport de Montréal (STM) today announced the improvement of service to Mount Royal Park and access to St. Joseph’s Oratory for Montrealers and tourists, effective this June 19.

A new line will be put into service during the summer period, the 711 – Parc-du-Mont-Royal/Oratoire, supplementing the existing 11 – Parc-du-Mont-Royal / Ridgewood line. The new service will provide Montrealers to the west of Mount-Royal Park with a direct link, via Snowdon station, where the Orange and Blue lines meet.Combining this line with the existing 11 line will enable customers to benefit from increased service, particularly between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays, and between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. on weekends. The 711 line will start its route at Mont-Royal métro station and will end at Snowdon station. Buses will take Avenue Saint-Joseph, offering a reliable alternative service to the park. Part of the route will run along Queen-Mary and Côte-Sainte-Catherine, which will improve access by bus to the park, particularly for the residents of the Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce and Outremont boroughs.

“The creation of the 711 line, which will be in operation during the summer, has the objective of improving service in this heavily visited sector of Montréal, supplementing the 11 bus line. For the past year, the STM has already been ensuring ecological public transit on this route, with standard biodiesel-electric hybrid bus service,” declared Philippe Schnobb, Chair of the Board of Directors of the STM.

The creation of a direct link between Mount Royal Park and St. Joseph’s Oratory on Mount Royal, two extremely busy sites in the territory, was greatly desired, and we are delighted the STM is putting the new 711 line into service this summer,” added Ms. Sylvie Guilbault, Executive Director of Les amis de la montagne.

Remember that the STM will add 100,000 hours of bus service during 2017. Improvements and additions of service, which will be deployed each season with daily adjustments, will be announced for the entire territory of the Island of Montréal.
