The STM welcomes cyclists in the métro
during the Tour la nuit and Tour de l'Île events
held next Friday, May 30, and Sunday, June 1

Montreal, May 30, 2008 – The Société de transport de Montréal (STM) is pleased to inform clients, particularly those who will be taking part in Montréal’s Bike Fest, that it will be possible for them to carry their bicycle in the métro when this year’s cycling events, Un tour la nuit and Tour de l’Île are held.

“For cyclists, this is good news because, compared to past years, more métro stations will be accessible for them to reach the Tour de l’Île departure on June 1. As for cyclists who will take part in the night-time Un tour la nuit, these same stations will also be accessible as of 7 p.m. on Friday, May 30,” announced Claude Trudel, chairman of the STM board of directors.

“I hope that large numbers of cycling fans will go along with the Montréal Bike Fest theme, Clear the air, and I invite them to take advantage of this one-time, public transit opportunity provided by the STM to easily reach the departure points and to later return home after the event has ended,” added Mr. Trudel, who also fervently hopes the Fest will be a success under clear skies.

For easier access to the departure points of these two events, the STM has identified entry and exit stations for each métro line. Other stations have also been chosen for the return home, as follows:

ENTRY AND EXIT STATIONS FOR EACH MÉTRO LINE

To reach the departure point of cycling events, the following stations will be accessible:

Un tour la nuit (Friday, May 30, between 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.)

Line 1 – Green

  • Entry stations: Radisson, Angrignon, de l’Église

  • Exit station: Pie-IX

Line 2 – Orange

  • Entry stations: Montmorency, Henri-Bourassa, Côte-Vertu, Vend�me

  • Exit station: Sherbrooke

Line 4 – Yellow

  • Entry station: Longueuil—Universit�-de-Sherbrooke

  • Exit station: Berri-UQAM

Line 5 – Blue

  • Entry stations: Snowdon, Outremont

  • Exit station: Saint-Michel

For the return home, the following stations will be accessible from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m.:

The STM also advises transit users to take note of the following:

  • No bicycles will be allowed in from non-designated entry stations;

  • The maximum number of bicycles per train is 16 and only in the train’s lead car;

  • For people with their bicycle, no transfers are allowed between métro lines;

  • Only standard bicycles are admitted in the métro (no tandems, tricycles, child trailers, etc.).

Moreover, the Société de transport de Montréal reminds transit users that riding a bicycle, using a foot scooter or a skateboard, and rollerblading inside a métro station or aboard any vehicle is forbidden at all times.

BUS ROUTE MODIFICATIONS

Because of these two cycling events, several bus routes will be modified.

Un tour la nuit – Friday, May 30

Service will be cancelled on the 22 – Notre-Dame line between 7:15 p.m. and 11 p.m.

These bus routes will also be modified during the following periods:

  • 18 – Beaubien, from 7:15 p.m. to midnight;

  • 28 – Honoré-Beaugrand, from 7:15 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.;

  • 32 – Lacordaire, from 7:15 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.;

  • 33 – Langelier, from 7:15 p.m. to 11:45 p.m.;

  • 34 – Sainte-Catherine, 7:15 p.m. to 10 p.m.;

  • 44 – Armand-Bombardier, 7:15 p.m. to 11:45 p.m.;

  • 95 – B�langer from 7:15 p.m. to midnight;

  • 131 – De l’Assomption, from 7:15 p.m. to midnight;

  • 132 – Viau, from 7:15 p.m. to midnight;

  • 139 – Pie-IX, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.;

  • 141 – Jean-Talon Est, from 7:15 p.m. to midnight;

  • 185 – Sherbrooke, from 7:15 p.m. to 10:45 p.m.;

  • 189 – Notre-Dame, from 7:15 p.m. to 11 p.m.;
